Brief Report: In their final game of the season, the result of this game would be the most
important, as to their finishing position in the league.

A bright start by County, putting pressure onto Delamere straight from the first whistle. County knew how important it was to get a result from the game, they weren't just going for a draw, which would guarantee second place, the girls wanted the win, which would give them an outside chance of champions, given other results went in their favour. Within 6 minutes, Megan W. burst through the Delamere defence after a long clearance, to drill the ball past the oncoming keeper, 1-0 County. The girls were up for this and continued to put pressure onto their opponents. Minutes later, from a corner, Megan Y. almost made it two, with a superb header, which was heading for the top corner, only for the keeper to tip it out of play. Chloe, County's Player of the Match, continued to harass the Delamere defence and was unlucky not to score, pulling a couple of shots wide in quick succession. Delamere were rattled as County continued to dominate. However, as the half grew, County were starting to show signs of tiredness, allowing Delamere to step up their game.
Shortly before half-time, Delamere hit County with two quick goals, both on
the counter-attack, to take a 2-1 lead at the break.

County were a little despondent during the break and required a lot of encouragement and self-belief to pick themselves up. They just required one last big push to get themselves back on top. The start of the second half, County pushed to get their second goal, going all out, unfortunately, were caught once more on the counter attack, 3-1 down. Another goal soon followed, as County were unable to clear their lines. The girls looked down and out at this stage and all hopes of finishing Runners-up looked gone, however, mid-way through the second half, they
managed to find a second wind and pursued in their task of finishing on a high. Several opportunities came and went, as County began, once more, to put pressure on the Delamere defence, who continued to stand in the way and frustrate County.

With 4 minutes remaining, County did manage to pull one back through, when Scarlett latched onto a loose ball in the area, following a corner, to place the ball wide of the keeper, into the bottom corner. Maybe, just maybe, County were still in this. They continue to press forward, but wasn't to be. County ended losing their final game 4-2, however, the girls should hold their heads high. They pushed Delamere most of the way, falling just short. (Editor's Note: Although it's no consolation, remember, Delamere are the only team to have beaten league champions, Poynton in the league this season and knocked them out of both cups so it's no disgrace to have lost to them.)

All in all, the season has been a successful one and the girls should be proud of their achievements, as much as the management are proud of them. The girls turned a few heads this year and other teams have stood up to take notice of County U12's, they've earned respect!!
The only way is up and I'm sure the girls will be challenging for champions come next season.

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
