If Harry Houdini's spirit was to be embodied in a football team then it would be the County under 12s team based on their performance tonight and their last performance!.

The game was played at Woodley on the 3G pitch to guarantee the fixture going ahead in case of bad weather and saved both teams a mid week trip to Flixton!

The first half saw Hillgate applying a great deal of pressure and County were extremely fortunate to go in at half time 1-0 up courtesy of a speculative shot from Megan Watson from 25 yards which somehow squirmed under the Hillgate keeper and into the goal.

This injustice had opposing effects on the two teams. County decided to rest on their laurels and Hillgate were spurred into action. Within 10 minutes County were 3-1 down! County had not played well and with 15 minutes left the prospects of the girls securing anything like a positive result appeared extremely remote.

However the challenge of the improbable (if not impossible) stirred the girls into action and they stepped it up not just a gear but probably three or four! County were irresistible. Chloe scored two goals to make it 3-3 and with the seconds running out County were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Up stepped Lucy who lifted the ball over the wall and into the top left hand corner of the goal. County had won 4-3! If they could play like they did for the last 15 minutes of the second half they would be without equal but perhaps that is too much to ask.
