Defeat number two of the season for the girls saw them make an exit from the cup. What has become a typically slow start from the girls saw them go 1-0 down within 5 minutes. A much improved Delamere from the side that County beat convincingly earlier in the season had a great deal of pace and drive through midfield which County took some time to get to grips with. It was not all one-way traffic however with County nearly scoring an immediate equaliser with Nour narrowly pushing the ball wide.
The equaliser came five minutes later in rather fortunate circumstances. Minnie played a delightful through ball to Chloe who floated the ball into the middle only to see it headed into the goal by one of Delamere's own defenders.
It remained 1-1 to half time and a closely fought contest had the spectre of extra time and penalties.
Shortly after half time Lauren nearly broke the deadlock with a long range effort that hit the bar. County began to press and it was not long before Megan found herself through on goal only for the advancing Delamere keeper to make a clearance.
With 15 minutes gone in the second half Delamere retook the lead which was increased further when the impressive number ? went on a storming run from her own half to score an impressive solo goal. County were now 3-1 down with 5 minutes left. Rather than let their heads drop the girls continued to battle and their efforts saw Chloe score County's second goal and increase everyone's hopes of a stirring comeback ....but it was not to be as the ref shortly after blew the whistle for full time.
If the girls can play the full hour in the same way as they invariably play the last 15 minutes of games then they should continue with, despite this second defeat, what has been a generally successful season to date.
