CLUB HISTORY
The Past (13/07/09)

Stockport County were one of the first non-premiership clubs to set up a ladies team following a partnership with the local authority. The Ladies Club was formed in 1989/90 and was an instant hit. The club had some success in the early years but there were a number of problems that resulted in some members breaking away and forming a separate club - Stockport Ladies FC.

In 1997 changes were made that has seen a major redevelopment of Stockport County Ladies FC. Fun nights were held, major recruitment took place and several of the senior players were encouraged to take up coaching roles within the set up.

From 1999 a major focus was on re-establishing a good relationship between ‘County’ and Stockport Ladies with the ultimate aim of bringing the two clubs back together to form one of the biggest Girls’ and Women’s clubs in the country. For the start of season 2000/2001 the junior section of Stockport Ladies was incorporated into the Stockport County set-up and at the end of the season the final link was made with the amalgamation of the two clubs under the umbrella of Stockport County Ladies FC.

In 2002 the club was voted Greater Manchester Sports, Club of the Year.

The Present (13/07/09)

Season 2009/2010

Seniors (open-age)

Our first team compete in the Northern Combination Football League. We have three further open-age teams; Reserves, Blues and HNR who will all play in the Cheshire & Manchester Women’s Football League, which is also part of the women’s football pyramid and is the first rung on the ladder leading to the North West Regional Women’s Football League Division 1 (North). All senior matches take place on Sunday afternoons.

Juniors

Next season, the club will operate 6 junior teams from under 10s through to under 16s, who will all once again be competing in the South Manchester Girls Football League on Saturday mornings. Whilst we do want all of our junior teams to win, the emphasis within the club is on enjoyment and development. We coach to develop and improve players but at the same time we want them to have fun.

We are also committed to helping develop young coaches, especially the youth and open age players who want to become involved in coaching our junior teams. This has proved to be very successful in the past and is something we wish to continue. We offer assistance with courses and mentor all newly qualified coaches to ensure that they continue to learn and progress in the right way for them. All our coaching staff are qualified to either Level 1 or Level 2 standard and have undergone CRB checks with The FA and have satisfied them that they are responsible individuals, suitable to coach and manage young players.

Our aim is to provide opportunities for girls and women of all ages from age five upwards to participate in football and we offer teams to suit all preferences and abilities.

Our club is open to any female regardless of ability and we always endeavour to provide a safe and happy environment for everyone to enjoy their football.
